The European Program LIFE GreenYourMove aims to develop a journey application that will encourage people to use public transportation for their commute, and at the same time to minimize greenhouse gas emissions. This journey application provides users with the best routes of public transportation in a useful and fast way and aims to reduce the production of greenhouse gas emissions and minimize the passenger commute time. To identify the best route, the app is using a combination of heuristic and analytical approaches, and during its development, a new gas emission calculation model was developed.

LIFE GreenYourMove project has reached its end. Since its beginning in 2015, GreenYourMove team managed to produce a pan-European journey planner producing environmental friendly co-modal routing plans for public transport means. Currently, the platform is available in Greece, Czech Republic, Slovak Republic, Cyprus, Denmark, Estonia, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Sweden and Switzerland.

Moreover, a timetables rescheduling procedure was developed under the frame of the project, aiming to reduce waiting time of passengers at intermediate nodes when commuting multi-modal trips. This procedure was applied to the Greek public transport network, resulting in an average reduction of 4.91% in waiting time.

GreenYourMove platform is expected to encourage car drivers to use public transportation and reduce the use of passenger cars. Every person shifting towards the public transport does not contribute in CO2 production, since the public transport mean would anyway be operating on the same route with or without the additional passenger. Since the launch of GreenYourMove platform, 0.55 Mt of CO2 have been saved through the increase of public transport usage. This was achieved through communicating passengers the environmental friendlier routes produced by the platform and raising awareness on environmental friendly transportation. The importance of all the project objectives and their effect on air quality have been communicated through several media (website, social media, notice boards, flyers, press releases, communication flashes, newsletters, videos, scientific publications) and activities (workshops, awareness campaigns, participation in conferences, workshops and events, networking with transport operators, direct promotion activities). The response of the passengers has been remarkable.

Since the launch of GreenYourMove platform in August 2018, more than 25,000 routing requests have been produced. More than 8,000 users from all over the world have visited the platform; moreover the mobile applications developed have been installed in more than 3,500 devices.
