ALSTOM was awarded for smart energy substation in London Underground
Regenerative power in railways is one of the stronger benefits of electric trains. Railway Industry and Transport Times awarded Alstom and London Underground for the implementation of new reversible power – supply substation. This innovative design works for a year in London Underground Victoria line. Such a technology delivers the best energy efficiency, reduces infrastructure investment, limits CO2 emissions and decreases the temperature in underground network.
HESOP recovers more than 99% of the traction energy generated during braking. Usually this energy wasted during braking. The heat from this wasted energy changes the temperature of underground and the implementation of this system reduces the temperature of the tunnels.
Terence Watson, Alstom Managing Director in the UK & Ireland believes that this system have huge potential benefits in energy reduction.
ALSTOM has implemented this new system in 109 places and upcoming projects include Milan tram and underground, Riyadh underground, Sydney tram and Panama underground.
